Case Study: Double Materiality Assessment for a UK House-builder

The Challenge:

A UK listed house-builder wanted to refresh their materiality assessment and align it with the CSRD double materiality approach to inform the next phase of their sustainability strategy.

What we did:

  • Reviewed their previous assessment and carried out a desktop review of key primary and secondary sources to identify potentially material ESG issues.
  • Conducted a series of 1-to-1 interviews with internal and external stakeholders to assess both impact and financial materiality.
  • Gathered wider stakeholder input through colleague and customer surveys.
  • Facilitated a board-level double materiality scoring workshop to validate the findings and assess the nature, risks, opportunities and time horizon of each issue.

The outcome:

✔ A refreshed materiality matrix aligned with CSRD double materiality requirements
✔ Deeper insight into customer sustainability expectations and purchasing influences
✔ Clear recommendations to help shape the company’s next sustainability strategy

A great collaborative project involving a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
